The Daily: Don’t Sleep on Islanders; What’s Wrong With Panthers?
The New York Islanders don’t seem to fit nicely into the narrative that no team wants the final Eastern Conference wildcard spot.
They are playing as if they very much want it.
The Islanders have won three of their last four, and four of their last six to climb back in the race. They are now only one point behind the Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals for the final Eastern playoff berth. They came from behind Monday to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1. This was the first time this season the Islanders won a game on the second night of a back-to-back scenario. New York has been winning the games it needs to win. Coach Patrick Roy has had an impact with this team.
Monday, the Islanders had a 13.8% probability of earning that playoff spot. This morning, moneypuck.com has New York’s probability at 22,7%.
