The Daily: Primeau Makes Most of Chance, is Red Wings Lyon Next?; EPL Honors Johnson’s Memory

Could Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde be taking notes as to what Martin St. Louis did on Thursday? In the midst of an 0-3-1 slide, Montreal Canadiens coach St. Louis was opting to insert No. 3 goalie Cayden Primeau for what was just his second start of the season.

Primeau – the son of former Red Wings forward Keith Primeau – responded by backstopping the Habs to a 3-2 overtime victory.

Situated on the Detroit bench as backup goalie, veteran Alex Lyon was watching the action unfold as the Red Wings were slipping to 2-4-2 over their past eight games. Might Lyon and Lalonde be looking at this scenario and thinking maybe it’s time Lyon got the chance to show what he can do between the pipes?

“It’s real when I talk about getting Alex in,” Lalonde said. “We’re still in the midst of evaluating Alex and wanting to get him in.”
