Things to Know

You could call the next two games a Patrick Kane nostalgia tour. He played in 19 games with the Rangers last season after being traded by the Chicago Blackhawks, who made him the No. 1 overall pick in 2007. Kane skated with the Wings this morning but it will be a little while longer before he sees game action, likely in a week to 10 days.

Steve Yzerman addressed the signing earlier today:

Meanwhile, tonight’s game with the Metropolitan Division leaders figures to be another test for the Wings, who have won three in a row. …

Daniel Sprong, who gave up No. 88 when Kane signed, has switched to No. 17. Some pretty good players have worn it at the beginning (Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio) or end (Brett Hull) of their careers. ….

Dylan Larkin didn’t make the trip to New York.“Dylan’s probably in that day to day scenario,” coach Derek Lalonde said. “With him not traveling with us, I’d probably put him unlikely for Thursday, too. I think we’d hope and expect him back for Montreal on Saturday. No IR. He’s missed some practices.” Jonatan Berggren was recalled from Grand Rapids to take Larkin’s spot on the roster.  Defenseman Justin Holl’s availability should be a game-time decision. Lalonde said the Wings will go with 12 forwards tonight, including Berggren. …

The latest came Monday night in a 5-1 loss to Buffalo. Boston, meanwhile, lost again on Monday, falling to Columbus, of all teams. The Bruins are 1-3-1 in their last five games. …

The Minnesota Wild, after firing coach Dean Evason on Monday, ended their seven-game losing skid by beating St. Louis 3-1 on Tuesday. After recording 100-plus points the past two seasons, the Wild have just 16 points after 20 games this season. …
