The Daily: What’s Up With Red Wings Goaltending?; Are the Pens Done?
The Detroit Red Wings will provide an update today on Ville Husso’s health at their morning skate. Husso suffered another injury (lower body) in the first period of the Red Wings’ 8-4 loss to the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday. The Finnish netminder had just returned to the lineup after eight weeks on the injured list.
Husso left after a giving up a goal to Leon Draisaitl, but coach Derek Lalonde said he was hurt before that goal.
Alex Lyon has been playing impressively, but Husso’s return — provided he played well — would giveLalonde another option. Husso has played well in stretches in his time in Detroit. The Red Wings certainly don’t want to overwork Lyon who has already played the most NHL games (23) he has ever played in season.
Lyon’s .759 save percentage (seven goals, 29 shots) against Edmonton was his worst of the season. Coach Derek Lalonde hasn’t yet said who will play tonight against Vancouver in the second game of the road trip. James Reimer is Lyon’s backup until Husso is ready again. Husso had looked sharp in his one conditioning start for the Grand Rapids Griffins. He posted a 3-0 shutout against the Belleville Senators.
