(He’s currently tied with Alex Delvecchio!) He needs 94 more pts to pass Mike Modano to become the highest scoring American born players. You can bet he’s laser focused on that. He’ll likely need 2 more years and he’ll want to be on a team that will help him accomplish that. Being on a team where he knows he rack up points might well be more important to him than winning a 4th Stanley Cup.

You might think he’s good enough to do that anywhere but that’s not assured. (He didn’t rekindle the chemistry with Pani last year, albeit he was playing injured.) He’s got a good thing going with the Red Wings. He may be content to keep that going regardless of their chances of winning a Cup.
