The Daily: Cossa Stays Sharp For Griffins; NHL Trade Rumors
In a week featuring Jesper Wallstedt receiving his first NHL start, Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa made 32 saves for the Grand Rapids Griffins, giving up only one goal, in a 2-0 loss to the Rockford IceHogs.
Cossa has surrendered one goal in each of his past two starts for Grand Rapids, stopping 60 of 62 shots for a .968 save percentage. He is 3-2-1 in his past six games, and he owns a 2.84 American Hockey League goals against average on the season.
Wallstedt and Cossa are frequently compared to each other because the Red Wings chose Cossa at No. 15 in the 2021 draft. The Minnesota Wild drafted Wallstedt 20th in the same draft. Many scouts thought Wallstedt was the better prospect. He gave up seven goals on 34 shots (.794 save percentage) in his 7-2 NHL debut loss to the Minnesota Wild. He has a 2.54 goals-against average in the AHL.
Here’s a 25 second clip of Sebastian Cossa absolutely bailing out his team tonight.

Red Wings Next Game
Tonight the Los Angeles Kings get a shot to redeem themselves against the Red Wings. Detroit downed the Red Wings 4-3 in a shootout nine days ago. Alex Lyon probably will be in goal for Detroit and James Reimer will play on the road in Toronto. But coach Derek Lalonde made it clear that it isn’t etched in stone. He wants to use defenseman Justin Holl in one game this weekend, although he didn’t say which one. Holl played last season for Toronto. Lalonde wants to get Klim Kostin into the lineup for his size and toughness, but as of Friday he hadn’t been completely cleared from injury. Plus, Lalonde liked how his forwards played against Edmonton.
