Duffer’s Dabbles: Former Wings Defenseman To Get Tryout With Canadiens
A former Detroit Red Wing is getting a tryout with another Atlantic Division club, NHL rookie camps were wrapping up and veteran players are hitting the ice to fine tune their bodies for upcoming training camp arrivals this week.
Here’s what’s going on around the NHL this Tuesday morning:
The Montreal Canadiens can’t beat the Detroit Red Wings. The Habs were 0-4 against Detroit during the 2019-20 season, the last time the two clubs clashed on the ice. What’s Detroit’s secret against Montreal? Maybe that’s what the 2021 Stanley Cup finalists want to find out from Cody Goloubef.
Canadiens announced having signed defenseman Cody Goloubef to a PTO. He will join the team for the training camp opening on Wednesday.

The journeyman NHL defenseman who spent two games with the Wings in 2019-20 will attend Montreal’s camp on a PTO. Goloubef has also played with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche. He helped Canada win the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Frosty’s Reception
Is the third time a charm? Morgan Frost certainly hopes so as he looks again to crack the lineup of the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Devils you say? Veteran forward Travis Zajac signed one of those silly one-day contracts so he could announce his retirement from the NHL as a member of the New Jersey Devils. He’ll work as a consultant with the club.

Veteran center Brian Boyle, set to attend the Pittsburgh Penguins camp on a PTO, is already skating with some of the team’s players.
Anxiety issues were the root cause of Jonathan Drouin’s decision to take a leave from the Canadiens last season.
The Winnipeg Jets have placed defenseman Sami Niku on waivers in order to buy out his contract.
How will the Pacific Division shake out in 2020-21? Our man in Vancouver Rob Simpson polled several NHL types on the subject and here are the results.
It’s A Family Affair
