Rangers Blow Past Red Wings, 5-3
NEW YORK – A four-goal outburst by the New York Rangers in a seven-minute stretch of the second period proved too much for the Detroit Red Wings to overcome in a 5-3 loss on Tuesday night.
The Rangers got going early with a goal from center Vincent Trocheck. His shot off the post gave New York the lead just 1:40 into the. contest.
Rangers Put It Away in the Second Period
But the Rangers (9-2-1) put the game out of reach in the second period, thanks to special teams.
With Detroit’s Andrew Copp in the penalty box for holding at the 7:19 mark, the Rangers scored just 12 seconds later on a goal by Chris Kreider.
Christian Fischer went off for tripping at 7:47, and Trocheck scored his second of the game 28 seconds later. The two power-play goals in 44 seconds gave New York a 3-0 lead.
Artemi Panarin and Will Cuylle finished the scoring for the Rangers, giving them four goals on 13 shots over a period of 6:51.

But the Red Wings’ offense was absent for much of the first two periods. The Rangers took a 9-0 lead in shots to start the game.
Detroit was outshot 32-28 on the night, but 26-12 after two. Goalie Ville Husso was pulled for an extra attacker with three minutes to go, but the Red Wings couldn’t take advantage.
The power play, which keyed Saturday’s home win against Boston, was shut out by New York. That included three man-advantages in the third period alone.
It was the sixth game in a row the Red Wings had fallen behind 2-0 or worse.
Dylan Larkin, listed as a game-time decision, had a team-high five shots in 19:19 of ice time.
Ben Chiarot had two assists for the Red Wings.
