The Daily: Sharks May Take Red Wings’ Worst Record Mark; Hall of Famer Fired
It’s been said more than once that hockey is a great sport, but an ugly business. Former Detroit Red Wings great Sergei Fedorov is listed as a possible future NHL coach because he’s been successful as an Kontinental Hockey League coach. He has won back-to-back KHL titles. But those championships didn’t spare him from being fired as CSKA Moscow coach Friday. Fedorov’s contract was not renewed because CSKA Moscow didn’t survive the first round of the KHL playoffs.
It’s not a good day to be Fedorov today. And it’s not the best days to be a member of the San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks are sitting with a .278 points percentage for the season. If the Sharks get six or fewer points in their last 10 games, their points percentange will be below the 2019-20 Red Wings’ mark of .275 points percentage. Right now that’s the worst mark of the NHL salary cap era.
San Jose is currently in the midst of the team’s fourth nine-game losing streak this season.
“Who’s betting on the Sharks to win three games the rest of the year?,” Sheng Peng wrote for San Jose Hockey Now.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
- Michigan State’s Trey Augustine, a premium Red Wings prospect, is set for another battle against Michigan today. This time it’s in the Regional Final Sunday.
- Grand Rapids Griffins veteran forward Tyler Spezia is recovering after suffering a scary injury in a game against the Chicago Wolves.
- The Red Wings have piled up losses, but they really aren’t far off the patch. Do Detroit fans believe their team has a chance? Doesn’t seem like it.
- Detroit recalled NHL veteran Zach Aston-Reese from the Griffins. He will likely play today because the Red Wings have been besieged by the flu bug
Red Wings Next Game
The Red Wings are visiting the Florida Panthers when they are not on top of their game. They are 1-5-1 in their last seven. That should be encouraging for the Red Wings. However, they are 3-10-1 in their last 14. Patrick Kane may be missing for the second consecutive game. He has the flu that is making the rounds in the Detroit dressing room. Austin Czarnik has also been ill.
