Red Wings Notebook: Reimer Makes Reappearance, Perron to Face NHL Discipline

While no official word is on the way yet, you can rest assured that the Detroit Red Wings are almost certainly going to be spending some time without forward David Perron.

Perron was receiving a match penalty for intent to injure in the first period of Saturday’s 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. His cross-check to the face of Ottawa defenseman Artem Zub was the cause of the infraction being assessed against Perron.

Generally, match penalties lead to hearings with NHL supplementary discipline. Those meetings tend to result in the issuing of league suspensions, especially when the words intent to injure are part of the equation.

“We’ll see about that,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “I don’t know. I’m sure the league’s gonna take a look at that.”

Red Wings Fischer Fights Joseph

The Perron penalty was part of a melee that came out of an indicent that saw Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin renedered unconscious by a punch to the back of the head from Ottawa’s Mathieu Joseph.

In the third period, Detroit forward Christian Fischer sought out retribution, fighting Joseph.

“I think all 21 guys would have done the same thing in our room,” Fischer said. “That’s the captain of our team. Every guy in the locker room would stick up for him.”

Lyon Lets Up

For the first time since was given his chance in the Detroit net, Alex Lyon was turning in a sub-par performance. Allowing four goals on 25 shots, Lyon would finish the night with an .840 save percentage. Lyon began the night with a .947 save percentage.

” Obviously not to the level he’s been at lately,” Lalonde said.

James Reimer took over to start the third period. That was his first game action since Nov. 19.

“I didn’t pull him,” Lalonde emphasized about Lyon. “I gave an opportunity for Reimer to get some touches. He’ll get the net here soon. I don’t know when. He’ll be back in the net.”

Ice Chips

Lost in all the commotion of Saturday’s game was Patrick Kane’s first goal for the Red Wings. It came on an assist from Alex DeBrincat . . . Former Detroit forward Dominik Kubalik was scoring one of Ottawa’s five goals. “It’s always good to score, and especially against them is pretty special,” Kubalik said . . . Robby Fabbri left briefly after being cut to the face, leaving Detroit down to eight forwards. He would finish the game wearing a full facemask.
