The Daily: Red Wings Won’t Be Seeing Leafs in Detroit; Nedeljkovic Scores Goal in AHL
Second AHL goal for Nedeljkovic
Friday’s 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Sweden counts as a home game for the Detroit Red Wings. In fact, it counts as the only Detroit home game against Toronto this season. That means even though they’re one of the oldest rivals of the Red Wings, the Leafs won’t be visiting Little Caesars Arena this season.
You might think that’s a rarity – and you’d be dead wrong. In fact, this will be the ninth NHL season in which Toronto won’t be playing a single game at Detroit.

The Leafs didn’t visit the Motor City in 2021, the COVID season in which teams only played opponents in what were reconfigured divisions. The Leafs also weren’t playing at Detroit in 2013, a 48-game season reduced due to a lockout.
During the years when the Red Wings were in the Western Conference and the Maple Leafs were in the Eastern Conference, there were no Toronto visits to Detroit during the 2011-12, 2009-10, 2007-08, 2005-06 and 2003-04 seasons.
Even though Detroit did play home games against Toronto the 1926-27 season, since all the team’s home games were played in Windsor, Ont., there were also no Toronto visits across the border that campaign.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
- It looks as though defenseman Jake Walman is going to be out for Detroit. Does that mean prize prospect Simon Edvinsson will be in?

- Alex Lyon was making his first start in goal for Detroit this season in Friday’s loss to Toronto
- Red Wings Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom is the first winner of the Borje Salming Courage Award
