Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider played his first NHL game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

An interesting tidbit about the Steve Yzerman first-round draft picks who’ve made their NHL debuts for the Detroit Red Wings. Come Saturday, when defenseman Simon Edvinsson is taking his NHL bow against the Colorado Avalanche, all three of them will have played their first game in the league on home ice facing the reigning Stanley Cup champions.

Last season, defenseman Moritz Seider and forward Lucas Raymond both played their first NHL game in Detroit’s season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Seider remembers it well.

“Oh of course,” Seider said. “It was really special for me. I hope (Edvinsson) will have a great one, too. And then it’s up to us to get two points and make that a special one for sure.”

Seider and the Red Wings were 7-6 losers in overtime to the Lightning in his NHL debut.

“It was a great game, a lot of emotions,” Seider recalled. “And it was really cool having Ray by my side there. It was a really special game. A tough outcome for us but I think it was a really cool start into an NHL career.”

Vegas: An eight-game, home-ice win streak over the Calgary Flames was ending via a 7-2 Vegas Golden Knights loss on Thursday.
