Is Derek Lalonde among the NHL's best-looking coaches? He doesn't think so.

Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde isn’t demanding a recount. Still he’s admitting to being somewhat perplexed by the outcome.

The website Gambling.com comissioned the popular beauty measurement app Golden Ratio Face to determine which of the 32 current NHL head coaches are the best looking in the bunch.

“Someone just sent me a text ‘congrats,’” Lalonde said. “I had no idea, I didn’t get to open it.”

Lalonde finished in third place. He’s offering shock over his bronze medal showing.

“Someone’s going to get fired for that,” Lalonde joked.

Jay Woodcraft of the San Jose Sharks and Darryl Sutter of the Calgary Flames were the coaches finishing ahead of Lalonde.

Again, the Detroit coach was finding this news to be utterly stunning.

“Are you sure that’s not the bottom up?” Lalonde asked. “Those are two really good coaches, but I’d put them towards the bottom with me in that category.”

Red Wings Lalonde Beats Old Boss

Success certainly wasn’t a factor in determining this outcome. Stanley Cup winner Jared Bednar of the Colorado Avalanche ended up in the middle of the pack when it came to his natural beauty. He was placed 15th.

Peter Laviolette brought up the rear among the 32 NHL coaches, finishing in last place for his handsomeness. He was just behind Jim Montgomery of the Boston Bruins and Andre Tourigny of the Arizona Coyotes.

In 29th spot was David Quinn of the San Jose Sharks, one spot behind former Red Wings player Gerard Gallant, coach of the New York Rangers.

“If David Quinn is at the bottom and I’m at the top, that’s a bad, bad list,” Lalonde noted.

The Detroit coach was taking great delight hearing the news that he finished well ahead of his old boss. Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper may be a two-time Stanley Cup winner, but according to the Golden Ratio Face software, he’s the 27th best-looking coach in the NHL.

“I could have told you that a long time ago,” former Lightning assistant coach Lalonde was suggesting about being more handsme than Cooper.
