The Detroit Red Wings wait another day if they indeed want to interview Tampa Bay’s assistant coaches Jeff Halpern and Derek Lalonde

The Detroit Red Wings and its fans will have to wait another day to see if Steve Yzerman is eying Tampa’s assistants for a coaching interview. The Lightning eked by the Avalanche 3-2, keeping their dream for a third consecutive Stanley Cup championship alive. Tampa Bay’s win prevented former Red Wing Darren Helm from lifting the Cup a second time in his career. Meanwhile, it keeps an anxious fan base at bay waiting to see if Yzerman is interested in interviewing assistant coaches Derek Lalonde and Jeff Halpern.

With the Red Wings have conducted interviews, it seems more likely that they will be interviewing either one or both coaches. Yzerman stated that working with those he knows is something he values.

Fans and the Red Wings front office will have to wait for at least a few more few days to see if anything changes.

Cossa, Oil Kings Out of Memorial Cup with 4-2 Loss

Top prospect Sebastian Cossa’s time in the Memorial Cup has ended. Hamilton knocked off the Oil Kings 4-2, handing Edmonton another loss in regulation. Considered one of the stronger teams in the Memorial Cup, Edmonton never seemed to find its groove, giving up pair of goals in the first game within 78 seconds of each other, dooming them in the third.

Cossa had 32 saves on 35 shots, but there were a couple of goals the young netminder would likely want back. Hamilton led the whole way, and playing catchup wasn’t conducive for the Oil Kings to prolonging their time in the tournament.
