Dallas put three goals behind Red Wings netminder Ville Husso on just five shots.

It was fan appreciation night on Monday at Little Caesars Arena but the fans certainly weren’t appreciating the performance the Detroit Red Wings were turning in on the ice in front of them.

Playing their final home game of the NHL regular season, the Wings were handed a 6-1 smackdown by the Dallas Stars.

Working fast, the Stars would be chasing Detroit starter Ville Husso after just 12:10 of play. Dallas would put three goals behind Husso on only five shots.

Since shutting out Montreal 5-0 on April 4, Husso has allowed 14 goals over his following three starts. His goals-against average over that span is 6.22 and his save percentage is .797.

Magnus Hellberg took over for Husso between the pipes and was the victim of the remaining three Dallas goals.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising if the team is opting to shut down Husso for the final two games of the regular season. Detroit coach Derek Lalonde acknowledged that there was a slight chance Husso may require offseason surgery to repair a nagging lower-body injury. He also was confirming that goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, currently not on Detroit’s active roster, would be brought along for the season-ending road trip.

Red Wings Larkin Nearing Milestone

David Perron was the scorer of Detroit’s only goal. Captain Dylan Larkin drew an assist on the goal. With 32-47-79 totals, Larkin is one point away from being the club’s first 80-point scorer since Henrik Zetterberg in 2010-11.

Roope Hintz collected four points for the Stars and Jason Robertson accounted for three points. Joe Pavelski’s goal was the 1000th NHL point for the veteran Dallas forward.

With a win, Detroit would have reached 20 home victories for the first time since winning 22 during the 2015-16 season. That was also the most recent campaign in which the team was a Stanley Cup playoff qualifier. A victory would have also given the Red Wings 82 points. That would’ve guaranteed their first .500 season since 2015-16.
