Red Wings Lose Robby Fabbri For Another Month
Robby Fabbri‘s history of bad luck with injuries added a new chapter when Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde announced Friday that Fabbri will be out a month with his lower body injury.
Fabbri was injured in Detroit’s season opener, and has missed the team’s past three games. Lalonde originally believed Fabbri would be out only a game or two.
“We had a little more testing, dug into it a little deeper with some medical testing, he’s out one month, and then we had a forward leave practice at the end of practice today, a little banged up,” Fabbri said. “If that forward can’t play, we’ll probably go 11 and seven tomorrow, which I have no problem doing on the road.”
Fabbri has been overrun by injuries since joining the NHL in 2015. His injuries have included three major knee injuries. He has missed more than 40% of the Red Wings games since being acquired from the St. Louis Blues in 2019-20.
The Red Wings haven’t revealed what Fabbri’s injury. However, Lalonde did say: “Lower body, not his knee.”
Husso Plays Saturday, Reimer on Sunday
Lalonde said the injury occurred late in the New Jersey game.
“He skated the next day,” Lalonde said. “We almost played him the next day. It was a true day to day and then as it didn’t respond well throughout the week with those skates, they did some deeper testing and found something that they did not like, so he’s going to be out one month.”
Lalonde said a Grand Rapids Griffins forward would meet the team in Ottawa. He didn’t say who it would be. He said all seven veteran defensemen are healthy enough to play. Austin Czarnik has been taking Fabbri’s place in the Detroit lineup.
He previously said Ville Husso will play in goal against Ottawa. Today, he added that James Reimer is expected to play in goal Sunday against the Calgary Flames.
