All good points. I do think you have to give up a good prospect along with the money and draft picks. Ottawa wants full value. Perhaps the Zadina money makes the contract possible. I must admit I have never heard of a young player giving up that kind of money. I do understand him wanting a fresh start. I dont think its the fault of any coach or coaches. They said that about Mantha and he?struggled in Wash too.. I wish Zadina luck.

I hope you are right there. Its not so much the money as the prospects that bother me in the usual DeBrincat propositions. And as usual, if the S.Y. brain trust figures he’s a good fit, it must be so. I’m just a hard sell on this one.

Thankfully you’re not GM. Nobody evaluates chances of making playoffs purely on the number of goals a team scores, but even by your own measure the Wings are off. They scored 240 last season, good for 24th in the league. They need more goals.

You want to spend a couple of excellent prospects and most of your power in cap space on a minus 31 guy who is trending down in goals?

Not something for my GM resume

First, can the editting please be tightened up. Obvious errors detract from the message.

Second, don’t know where the commentor got the idea that the trade package would include Soderblom and Berggren. As far as I know, nothing official or unofficial has been said or leaked about any trade package(s). Certainly almost any DRW player(s) prospect(s) and picks could be in playl. SY, I believe , would rather not give up any roster player: Berggren, but use prospects and picks to swing this deal. IMHO, I would consider Berggren almost untouchable.

Third ,again I believe ,the longer this goes the more it favors the DRW. Debrincat is finding out the money is not as high as he hoped. Ottawa learn there as are very few teams that can swing this deal SY appears tol be letting them both ” COOK”.

Edvinsson? No chance. Any combination of Elmer, Johansson, Berggren and a pick for Debrincat? Pull the trigger. DRW fans need to realize that premium goal scorers are what is needed for this team, and they are not going to get them via the Draft Lottery, so those players will need to be obtained via a trade. Trades are not generally one sided, teams have to give to get. Elmer, while a fun prospect, has a long way to go. Berggren, while I love him as a player and his playmaking abilities, he’s still a wild card. Any reference to the amount of Salary cap that Debrincat will occupy is a false narrative as the salary cap is going to go up significantly next season. If they get a goal scorer for 7-8 million this season, that salary is going to be advantageous in 2-3 seasons.

Fans can’t whine about how long the rebuild is taking if they are critical of or against these kinds of opportunities. This is the reality of the situation.

Enough to give up an Edvinsson or Soderblom level player ? Are you willing to see one or both go ?

Here’s a stat or two to ponder on before you decide on DeBrincat.

NHL Goals needed to make playoffs is about 260.
Last year Detroit scored 237 Goals

IF in 2023-4 the current DRW roster players score only what they did last season on whatever team they were on The Red Wings team goal total will be 280 goals.

Do you really want to give up two REALLY promising non-roster prospects plus perhaps next years extra number 1 or some near scenario to get Debrincat’s maybe 30 goals and minus 31 plus-minus ratio. Plus nearly break the cap bank ? All for a player who may have already peaked and trended down last season ? For 7 years ?

Yzerman has improved the size and talent of the teams Forwards. The Defensive additions should help reduce the goals against.

It is also reasonable to expect an uptic in scoring from players like Raymond who are due to bounce back with a better team around them.

But if none of that comes and they all produce the same as last season 280 goals should be enough to at least be in legit playoff contention. On paper.
