Big Season Ahead For Red Wings? Don’t Bet On It

Following an offseason of exciting player movement, there’s an aura of expectation emanating from the fanbase of the Detroit Red Wings. Perhaps even an end to their seven-season drought without playoff hockey is coming up during the 2023-24 NHL season.

Oddsmakers assessing the situation appearing to be offering some advice in that regard – don’t bet on it.

At online sportsbook BetMGM, Detroit is assessed as the 18th choice to win the Stanley Cup at odds of +5000. The Red Winga are the 12th betting choice to earn the Eastern Conference title at +3500.

Okay, no one is expecting either of those events to happen next season. But there seems to be a strong belief that the Wings can make a move up the Atlantic Division ladder. Again, oddsmakers are in disagreement with this assessment.

Detroit is the seventh betting choice to win the division in the eight-team Atlantic at +1600. The Wings are behind both the Buffalo Sabres (+900) and Ottawa Senators (+1100) and ahead of only the Montreal Canadiens (+6600).

The over/under on total points earned by the Red Wings during the 2023-24 season is set at 87.5 points. If they reach that number, it would be Detroit’s best season since a 93-point output in 2015-16. Bet over or under this total and you’ll get odds of -115.

Interestingly enough, the Red Wings are given a much better chance of being the NHL’s worst team than of winning the Stanley Cup. Detroit is rated eighth in the betting market of which team will finish with the worst record in the league at a betting line of +4000.

Plenty Of Opportunity To Bet Red Wings DeBrincat

Newcomer Alex DeBrincat is the one causing the most buzz by his arrival to Detroit and it’s no different in the betting world. He’s +5000 to win the Hart Trophy and +8000 to earn the Rocket Richard Trophy. DeBrincat is +5000 to lead the Atlantic Division in goals scored. The over/under on DeBrincat goals for the season is set at 37.5. Bet it either way at odds of -115. As well, you can get action on the two-time 40-goal scoring hitting 40 goals again (+300), or even the magical 50-goal mark. Those odds are set at +2500.

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is given odds of +25000 to win the Hart Trophy. He’s +15000 to be the Rocket Richard winner. Larkin, who led Detroit with a career-high 32 goals last season, is set with odds of -154 to again be a 30-goal scorer. He’s +1000 to be a 40-goal sniper. The over/under on Larkin’s point total, offering -115 odds either way, is 76.5. That’s below the 79 points he recorded last season.

Seider A Norris Contender

Moritz Seider didn’t crack the NHL Network’s ranking of the top-20 defensemen, but he is the co-12th betting choice to win the Norris Trophy at odds of +3500. Derek Lalonde is at a betting line of +2500 to win the Jacka Adams Trophy as coach of the year.

Lucas Raymond is set at a betting line of +25000 to win the Rocket Richard Trophy. A 23-goal scorer two seasons ago as an NHL rookie, Raymond is offered at odds of +165 to be a 20-goal scorer in 2023-24. David Perron scored 24 goals last season for Detroit. He’s set at -333 to do it again.
