Red Wings prospect Marco Kasper will be the guest of honor as Klagenfurt opens the preseason in Austria.

There’s plenty of debate as to where Detroit Red Wings 2022 first-round draft pick Marco Kasper will be playing his hockey during the 2023-24 season. But before he sets out on a bid to crack the Detroit roster, he’s taking time to be thankful to those where it all started out for him.

The Klagenfurt Red Jackets, Kasper’s original pro team in his native Austria, are playing their preseason home opener on Wednesday and Kasper is going to be the guest of honor. He’ll be signing autographs and posing for selfies during the first and second intermissions of the game.

Kasper, who saw duty in one game for the Red Wings last season, has been working out with his old club in prepartion to depart soon for Detroit and begin his pursuit of an NHL career.

Red Wings Offseason

Netminder Jonathan Bernier, who was announcing his retirement on Monday, spent three of his 15 NHL seasons (2018-21) with the Red Wings.

While he might not gain a presence among the all-time Detroit greats, Bernier nonetheless is deserving of kudos. Backstopping some poor clubs, he kept his GAA under 3.00 in two of three seasons and his save percentage above .900 in all three campaigns.
