The Daily: Salary Cap Rising $4 Million in ’24; Do Avs Need Goalie?
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman delivered good news at the Board of Governors meeting Wednesday by saying next season’s salary cap is expected to rise by up to $4.5 million. With the salary cap currently at $83.5 million, the preliminary cap projection has it landing at between $87-88 million.
Bettman stressed the numbers are very, very preliminary.
This is important news for teams because the salary cap, due to the COVID-19 complications, has only grown by a total of $4 million since 2018-19.
This is also good news for the Red Wings who have Moritz Seider, Michael Rasmussen and Lucas Raymond to re-sign next summer. David Perron is the highest profile unrestricted free agent. According to capfriendly.com, the Red Wings only have 12 players signed for next season. With the expected increase in the salary cap, the Red Wings will have about $30 million in salary cap space to put their roster together.
