Red Wings Notebook: Rasmussen Practices; Gettinger Re-Signs

Forward Michael Rasmussen, who left Saturday’s game in Vegas  with an undisclosed injury, did skate in the Red Wings’ practice Monday in Las Vegas.

The Red Wings also didn’t call up anyone from the Grand Rapids Griffins. Those two facts suggest Rasmussen will play Tuesday in Buffalo when the Red Wings attempt to halt a five-game losing streak.

Detroit lost its hold on a Eastern Conference wild card spot Sunday night when the New York Islanders beat the Anaheim Ducks for their sixth consecutive win.  The Islanders lead Detroit by percentage points in the second wild card race, but they can take a two-point lead by beating the Kings in Los Angeles tonight.

Presumably, Alex Lyon will be back as starting goalie for Detroit against the Sabres. James Reimer started Sunday’s loss to Vegas. Detroit is 1-0 against Buffalo and Lyon was in net for that 5-3 victory in December.

Michael Rasmussen is skating at Monday’s #LGRW practice at City National Arena in Las Vegas.

He left in the third period of Saturday’s game against the Golden Knights with an undisclosed injury. Detroit will conclude its road trip in Buffalo on Tuesday.

Gettinger’s New Deal

The Red Wings rewarded Tim Gettinger’s strong play with the Grand Rapids Griffins by giving him a one-year extension on his two-way contract. The 6-foot-6 left wing ranks fourth on the Griffins squad with 12 goals. Gettinger, 25, has played 16 NHL games with the New York Rangers in his career.

Gettinger hasn’t played any games with Detroit, but clearly the Red Wings like his contributions with the Griffins who look like they will qualify for the playoffs this season.

The financial terms of his new deal were not disclosed, but this season Gettinger earned $250,000 in Grand Rapids and would have earned $775,000 had he played in Detroit.

The AHL salary for players on NHL entry level, two-way contracts is $70,000.
