They were already committed to pay Rowney $825,000 on a one-way deal. Ryan would’ve commanded the same amount. Rowney is a 4th line, PK player. That’s not Ryan’s forte. Ryan needed to make the team on his offense. Raymond won that role. So the decision was part economics, part role fulfillment.
