You know who enjoyed watching the Toronto Maple Leafs make another first-round playoff exit? Montreal Canadiens center Nick Suzuki, that’s who.

“The Leafs? Uhhh. …it was the first time I was cheering for Tampa so. …” Suzuki said during a recent appearance on the Habs Tonight podcast. “It was weird cheering for the team that beat you last year (in the Stanley Cup final) but it turned out pretty good.”

The Lightning beat the Maple Leafs in the opening round of the 2021-22 Stanley Cup playoffs in seven games after Toronto squandered a 3-2 series lead. One spring earlier, it was Suzuki and the Canadiens who rallied from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Leafs in Round 1. Both the Lightning and Canadiens won Game 7 of the series on Toronto’s home ice at Scotiabank Arena.
