The Daily: Smooth Operator Ovechkin Sets Up Shop at a Call Center

Alexander Ovechkin working as a call center operator for a day? Mark it down if you had it on your offseason hockey bingo card.

As part of a promotion, the Washington Capitals star agreed to make phone calls to customers for a day. He traded sticks and skates for scripts and presumably a swivel chair.

Funny thing is, it worked.

Washington Hockey Now’s Sammi Silber writes that the prolific goal scorer let his personality shine through. On the podcast “Sports on Air” Fonbet Marketing Director Alina Yakirevich indicated that the company wondered what would happen if Ovechkin called customers directly. The result, Yakirevich added, was an authentic one.

Fonbet is Russia’s largest sports betting company.

Some fans didn’t believe it was him calling. One customer even cussed him out. But those that did answer had a chance to get a meet or greet with the Washington captain or 250,000 Russian rubles.

Simply put for Fonbet users, if Ovechkin calls, it’s probably best to answer.
