The Daily: Veleno Hit Clouds TJ Oshie’s Status As Season Approaches

Published

Though it wasn’t a lot of news, there were updates on TJ Oshie’s status following the Washington Capitals 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Oshie was injured midwashingway through the second when he took a hit from Detroit’s Joe Veleno. Washington Hockey Now’s Sammi Silber writes that Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said that Oshie’s upper body injury would have kept him out regardless.

Silber also adds that the Capitals would be re-evaluating Oshie again today. Whether it turns out to be one that holds him out for some time remains to be seen. But as Silber notes, Oshie’s 2021-22 season was limited by injury as well.

In other Red Wings-Capitals news, Anthony Mantha and Jakub Vrana have yet to meet after the April 2021 trade that sent them headed to the other’s former team. Vrana had the game off.

Mantha was celebrating the birth of his first child.

At some point, the two will suit up against one another
