The Daily: Red Wings, Flyers Taking Different Outlooks on Rebuild; Latest Landeskog Injury Update
Yzerman uncertain where Detroit is at in rebuild
When it comes to the rebuild, the Detroit Red Wings aren’t ready to suggest that they are stepping past that stage of their plan. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Flyers are approaching the “R” word as if it were a four-letter word.
Chuck Bausman of Philly Hockey Now is reporting that the Flyers braintrust doesn’t want to hear the players ever referencing a rebuild.
“I’m sure in the room, the players are not thinking rebuild,” Briere said at a news conference Tuesday. “And I hope they’re not.
“I made that very clear with them that every game we expect them to win.”

Meanwhile, during his state of the team pre-training camp address, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman was unwilling to go all-in on playoffs or bust for his team. He wasn’t about to consider his team being past the rebuild stage in the process.
“I don’t know when to announce what stage of the rebuild we’re at,” Yzerman said. “Each year we’ve tried to add draft picks, tried to sign any of our unrestricted free agents that we could or wanted to and the players we couldn’t, we traded at the deadline.
“I guess you’re out of your rebuild when you’re not doing that at the deadline.”
