The Daily: Will Crosby Numerology Work on Next Deal?: No Love for Red Wings Goalie Husso

Ville Husso, Red Wings

Bob Duff’s recent story laid out how the oddsmakers don’t believe in the Detroit Red Wings for the 2022-23 NHL season. The Red Wings are seventh betting choice, out of eight teams, to win the Atlantic Division.

One reason why oddsmakers don’t favor the Red Wings is they don’t seem to appreciate their players.

This morning, BetMGM.com has Husso ranked 29th in the Vezina Odds in a 32-team league. Even the most avid Red Wings understands that Husso isn’t a Vezina favorite. At best, he’s a middle of the pack guy. But on BetMGM’s list, he’s behind some backups and goalies playing on some of the worst teams. Some guys in front of Husso have only played a smatter of NHL games.

Husso is behind Joonas Korpisalo, who has a career 3.01 goals-against average. Husso is one spot ahead of Toronto backup goalie Joseph Woll.  Take a look at the goalie rankings at BetMGM:

Red Wings’ Offseason

Prospect defenseman Anton Johansson (105th overall, 2022) scored for Leksands in a preseason game Saturday.

Red Wings’ In Case You Missed It

  • Tim Robinson writes about how Brian Lashoff knew it was time to move from playing to coaching.
  • Hockey Now weighed in on the subject of whether Dominik Hasek is the greatest NHL goalie ever.
  • Dylan Larkin is unique among the stars in Red Wings’ history.

Chicago: Nate Brown projects which Chicago Blackhawks will score 20 goals this season.

Colorado: SportlogIQ/NHL Network’s  Mike Kelly ranked Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews in the top three among NHL defensemen. Is CHN writer Evan Rawal buying that?

San Jose: The Athletic ranks the San Jose Sharks‘ prospect pool 13th in the NHL. That’s not bad, but not perfect, for a retooling team.

Pittsburgh: Dave Molinari has fun with some speculation that Sidney Crosby’s next contract will somehow have an “8” and “7” in it because Crosby seems to be into his numerology.  He was born on 8-7-87. He already had two contracts paying him $8.7 million. Even if $8.7 million isn’t the answer here, the Pittsburgh Penguins will find a way to make the 8-7 combination work.

Vegas: Chris Gawlik explores whether the Golden Knights should pursue Elias Pettersson if his plan is to leave Vancouver. Golden Knights.

Washington: The Washington Capitals are unsure of the timeline for Max Pacioretty’s return from his current injury.
