THIS draft added depth to the D and added size to the F group. Not much new in the scoring specialist dept. unless S.Y. has eyes on a trade or a free agent.

The Wings may feel okay about the current and potential scorers coming up in the pipeline. Apparently S.Y. and co. want to first establish the supporting core with big two-way forwards backed by a mix of puck movers and defensive Dmen…and plenty of depth.

Looking to the roster and pipeline the Wings have some scorers but most play a two-way game and just a couple look to be pure scorers. Raymond is probably the best example there at the moment. DRW have my approval on this format. It seems to be the way winning teams are constructed these days.

The odds of these players being meaningful contributors on the Red Wings is slim, so they are just taking swings and acquiring assets. They need to hit big on one or two guys after round one, or this is going to be a very long rebuild. They took a lot of North American guys so this will be a good test of those scouts and Draper’s team.
