The Daily: Petry May Move Again; Marchessault, Cassidy Break Up?

Montreal Hockey Now’s top-notch hockey writer Marc Dumont speculates the Montreal Canadiens may eventually move recently-acquired defenseman Jeff Petry.

The Canadiens picked up a second-round draft pick as part of the deal to take Petry’s contract. The Penguins had to shed salary to make salary cap space.

Dumont says for now the Habs are happy to keep him because he’s an upgrade over some of their current defensemen. They know the player from his previous stint in Montreal.

But Dumont believes the Canadiens made Petry far more marketable by insisting the Penguins retain 25% of his salary. That reduced Petry’s current cap hit to $4.69 million for each of the next two seasons. If the Canadiens will retain even more salary, Petry will become even more  attractive to a contender.
