Could Patrick Kane be Vegas bound?

The recent death of former NHL forward Dave Richardson was passing without much fanfare, much like his all-too-brief career with the Detroit Red Wings.

Richardson, who died at the age of 82, played 45 NHL games – 41 for the New York Rangers, three for the Chicago Blackhawks and one for the Red Wings. It would be his farewell NHL game and it came on Christmas Day, 1967 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Detroit acquired Richardson and veteran NHL defenseman Jean-Guy Talbot for Bob McCord and Duke Harris via a November 1967 deal with the fledgling Minnesota North Stars. Richardson was given assignment to Central League’s Memphis South Stars.

However, injuries to Paul Henderson, Bruce MacGregor and Ted Hampson left Detroit depleted at forward. Red Wings coach Sid Abel would be calling up an entire forward line. He brought Richardson, Jim Peters Jr. and Doug Roberts up from Memphis. Abel spotted them in on all three of his forward lines during a 3-1 loss to the Leafs on Dec. 25.

Returning to Memphis, that would be one of 18 stops Richardson was making during a 15-season pro career.
