The Daily: Why Rasmussen Decision Angers Fans; Habs Ponder Deals

If you read Bob Duff’s story about the Michael Rasmussen suspension, then you know Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde wasn’t surprised the Department of Player Safety looked into the incident.

“At first I didn’t think there was much to it,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said of the Rasmussen high stick. “Seeing it live, it was a follow-through. And then you watch it back in slow, slow, slow motion and you can see coming down on that head area, direct contact to the head.

“The league, and rightfully so, they’re trying to take care of plays like that.”

Everyone understands the NHL wants to eliminate blows to the head. Some Detroit fans believe Boston’s Derek Forbort should have called on the carpet for his high hit on Detroit’s Joe Veleno.
