Lyon Back in Goal For Red Wings Sunday Against Wild

Fresh off an impressive 5-2 road win over the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde is again opting to change a winning lineup. For Sunday afternoon’s home date at Little Caears Arena against the Minnesota Wild, he’s returning Alex Lyon between the posts.

Lyon shutout the New Jersey Devils 4-0 on home ice Wednesday. Lalonde went with Ville Husso in Boston and Husso beat the Bruins for the second time this season.

Lyon will be starting for the third time in four games.

“It’s a positive, and here we are, we’ve used all three,” Lalonde of his club, which is carrying three netminders. “I know it’s not very common in the league but I think it’s the way it may have played out for us.

“We were comfortable and confident with all three goalies and we’re just trying to put ourselves in the best situation to win and tomorrow it’s Alex.”

Reimer Odd Man Out For Red Wings

Suddenly it’s veteran James Reimer who’s the odd goalie out in Detroit’s version of puckstopper roulette. It was Lyon was was sitting out for the first 15 games of the season.

“Stay sharp,” was Lalonde’s request of Reimer. “He’s so experienced. I think he’s probably seen everything in his career, so I don’t think this situation would faze him much.”

In the meantime, Lalonde is treating Reimer in the same manner he was operating with Lyon earlier in the season. Maintaining open lines of communication and keeping him in the loop.

“No different than where Alex was, try to communicate as best we could and then I also think he’s been in this league enough to know this could change in a hurry, too,” Lalonde said. “So, stay sharp, stay at it, be a professional.

“He was good in practice today. Keep working with (goaliee coach) Alex Westlund and be ready.”
