Kevin’s Morning Hash: Red Wings’ Draft Possibility, A Goalie Opportunity, Tkachuk And Evander Kane Rumors
Washington Hockey Now’s Sammi Silber’s deep dive into the Washington Capitals goaltending situation could make you wonder if there is an opportunity there for the Red Wings to inquire about a trade.
The Capitals have Vitek Vanecek, 25, and Ilya Samsonov, 24, competing to be the No. 1. Silber writes that the Caps might also bring in a veteran to split time with one of them. They were going to do that last season, but those plans were disrupted when Henrik Lundqvist needed heart surgery.
If the Capitals bring in a veteran, perhaps they would deal a goalie. The Red Wings would like a younger goalie with up-side. Probably the Capitals would prefer to let it play out more. But it’s probably worth a call.
Today’s Trade Rumor
Calgary 650 hockey analyst Shane O’Brien reported that Matthew Tkachuk wouldn’t mind a change of venue. He’s from St. Louis and his dad played for the Blues.
Around the NHL
It should never be surprising what people are willing to do to disrupt opponents during the playoff series. When the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche were intense rivals, a few over-the-top so-called fans in both cities would call, or try to call, players hotel rooms in the middle of the night. Boston Hockey Now reports that some people on Long Island went even farther.
Joe Haggerty writes the Bruins had to switch hotels because of fan shenanigans during their playoff series. Can’t imagine the local fire department appreciated those tactics.
